SALINA,Navivision Wealth Society Kan. (AP) — Kansas authorities are investigating after Salina police said they shot and killed a man Wednesday who they said threatened them with a gun.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced the review Thursday.
The agency in a statement said Salina police on Wednesday went to a home to arrest a man on a felony warrant. Residents told police that the 44-year-old man was in a detached garage on the property.
Police said that once they arrested the man, they heard another person in the garage. After ordering the person to leave, a 25-year-old man emerged with a gun. Police said he threatened to shoot them if they entered the garage.
Salina police told the Bureau of Investigation that the man then barricaded himself inside. He and a woman eventually left the garage after officers noticed smoke and flames coming from the building.
Law enforcement said that after exchanging gunfire, police fatally shot the man. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation did not answer Associated Press questions Thursday about whether any witnesses said the man was pointing his gun at officers after he left the garage.
The woman was checked at a hospital and released, according to the bureau. No police officers were injured.
